Ohio Caverns

In the midst of Ohio's vast farmland...

is a quiet little gem to be discovered.

My husband took the day off from work so we headed north toward West Liberty Ohio to see Ohio Caverns.

Ohio Caverns, discovered in 1897, is an historic place to visit.  The above sign gives a brief history.

The caverns tunnels twist and turn underneath the ground at different depths and most of the pathways are pretty narrow.

There were really cool stalactites, stalagmites and columnar formations.

The walls are made of limestone.

It was difficult to photograph in an area so devoid of natural light.  I went back and forth between using flash and not using flash, not knowing which photos would turn out best.  In the end, I think it was about 50/50.

It was a fun trip and worth the 1.5 hour drive.

What discoveries are you making in your "backyard"?

Make it a great day!
