Meet Blackie

I'd like to introduce to you "Blackie" who we are hoping to bring home in the next couple of weeks.

Blackie is a "Goldendoodle"; that is, the mamma is a golden retriever and the papa is a black and white standard poodle.

Blackie is one of nine in her litter.  She needs to gain two more pounds before we can bring her home.  I had my camera on the wrong setting, so my pics didn't turn out as well as I hoped.

Most of the time she had her nose to the ground exploring her environment.

She seems like a very sweet puppy.

Hubby has been getting all sorts of movies from the library for us to watch on training her, etc.  He's really the pro in the family as his family always had dogs as he was growing up.  He also rescued a Husky before we were married and trained her.

We are all looking forward to bringing little Blackie home.

That's it for now.  Hope you are having a terrific Saturday.

A Robin's Nest

"He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler."
Psalm 91:4
(NKJV)

Look at this sweet robin sitting in her nest.

She is in the sill of what will be the little ones school room next year.  (Right now, we are using it as a holding ground for boxes, furniture and the like.)

We've watched the nest go from empty, to one egg, two eggs to now three eggs.  Not sure if there will be more, but aren't robin eggs the prettiest shade of blue?

We've been trying not to disturb momma bird too much.

School and normal household activities are keeping me busy.

Everything that was in storage had to be washed.  I've gotten all the dishes washed that were in storage, as well as all the towels and blankets.

I haven't done any decorating yet.  I'm still trying to find a "home" for items.

We've made several trips to Good Will with old clothes, sheets, towels, etc.  And, we have a few things set aside to try to sell on Craigslist.

I've really enjoyed working in my new kitchen.  It's fun to cook with the new appliances.

:-)

More unpacking on the agenda for this weekend.  AND, we are going to visit our puppy.  In just about two weeks we'll be bringing her home.  I'll share more on that later.

Happy day!

Happy Easter and Carrot Cake

I made Carrot Cake this afternoon.  I found the recipe on The Galley Gourmet.  Her recipes always look delicious.  This is the first one I've tried.  It called for a lot of ingredients, but I think the time and effort will be worth it tomorrow (I hope).

If I make it again, I'll put the walnuts around the sides as she did.  The cake crumbs show so easily through the white icing (and I did let it cool the full 2 hours).

My sister and her family are coming over to celebrate Easter once her husband gets off work.  We'll have a small Easter egg hunt for the little ones and we are going to cook out some BBQ pork chops.  I'm going to make a fruit salad and my sis is going to bring a tossed salad.

The house isn't really ready for entertaining, but we can eat and chat among the boxes.

:-)

I hope you and your families have a blessed Easter Sunday.

God is so good.

Brisk Walk

I went for a "brisk" walk this evening while hubby and the little one spent some quality time together.

I say "brisk" not because I was walking fast, but because it is cold out!  Brrrr, it feels more like February than mid-April.

When I got back, I took a little walk back by the trees to see if the bird's nest was still there.  Unfortunately, it looks like the wind blew it out of the tree.

I did find some cool tracks though...

Looks like we have a raccoon living somewhere on the property, or close by anyway.  I'll have to keep an eye out for him or her.

I also saw a deer track...

We've been told that white tailed deer are prevalent in the area.

And lastly.....

a "goose egg" of the golfing variety.

:-)

Before we built our house, the neighbors used the lot as a driving range.  The little one has been having fun rounding them up.  Some are half buried in the dirt and some, like the one above, just resting in the rough.

Hopefully it will warm up a bit.  We had snow yesterday and temps in the 20's and 30's overnight the past couple of nights.

Warmer weather is just around the corner; right?

Take care,
Heather

Pretty Nest

My husband and I were working out in the yard today and every time I went by this tree, a bird flew out.  I thought there might be a nest, but couldn't see one.  I called hubby over and he located it up a littler higher in the tree.

I think it's a mourning dove nest.  There are just two eggs.  I hope they hatch.  I like the cooing sound the doves make; it sounds so peaceful and pretty.

There are all sorts of birds in the area.  We even have turkey vultures.  They are not an attractive bird to be sure.  I'll try to get a photo of one.  They fly in groups looking for carrion (dead stuff).
I guess there is a purpose for all animals, great and small.

:-)

Hope you are having a blessed Sunday.  I'm off to get some more unpacking done.
I think this is going to take a while.

Cheers!

Neighborly Kindness

While I was out getting my hair done yesterday evening, a neighbor stopped by and dropped off these pretty roses for us.

Wasn't that super sweet!

It was a blessing and a treat to come home to something pretty a midst all the boxes and things waiting to be put away.

I hope your Wednesday is grand.

Happy Hump Day!

Sunny Afternoon

Side yard looking northeast
This past Sunday was really the first day, in almost a week, that the sun came out.  It's been raining almost every day that we've been in the new house.

The above photo shows all that is left of the trees after the septic system was installed.  Once things start to green up, we'll see what survived and have the trees cleaned up.

The small planes were taking advantage of the pretty weather and we enjoyed watching them fly overhead.

We met some of the neighborhood kids and their dad.  He graciously invited us over to walk a trail in his back yard.  The little one had fun playing with the kids and it was nice to meet another one of the neighbors.

The neighbor, mentioned above, has a unique property as his house backs up to the woods and he has a bit of a ravine on his property.  He and his kids have created all sorts of trails and bridges over the creek.  There were deer tracks along the trail and he told us the deer had eaten his apple trees down to the nub...

We are still working on making the house "home".  It's going to be a work in progress for a while, but little by little, we'll get there.

Thank you for all the well wishes on our move, I appreciate your nice comments.  I'll try to make my rounds to all your blogs soon, but real life is keeping me hopping!

Have a great day!

We are Moved!

We are moved!

I can't tell you how thankful we are to be moved.

Today was our last day at the apartment.  We cleaned and got the last of our things.
I was never so happy to turn in our keys!

I'll write more as we get settled and get into our routine.

Praise God for his faithfulness!

"O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth forever."
1 Chronicles 16:34
(KJV)
