Pretty Nest

My husband and I were working out in the yard today and every time I went by this tree, a bird flew out.  I thought there might be a nest, but couldn't see one.  I called hubby over and he located it up a littler higher in the tree.

I think it's a mourning dove nest.  There are just two eggs.  I hope they hatch.  I like the cooing sound the doves make; it sounds so peaceful and pretty.

There are all sorts of birds in the area.  We even have turkey vultures.  They are not an attractive bird to be sure.  I'll try to get a photo of one.  They fly in groups looking for carrion (dead stuff).
I guess there is a purpose for all animals, great and small.

:-)

Hope you are having a blessed Sunday.  I'm off to get some more unpacking done.
I think this is going to take a while.

Cheers!
Heather

  1. How lovely, it will be nice to watch and see if they hatch, I don't like the sound of the turkey Vultures though. :)

  4. I love to find bird nests here on our property. The mourning doves are so lovely. Their cooing is a call that reminds me of Greg's parents. They had them in their yard a lot.
Packing and unpacking...ugh, it is a terrible job. But I bet you are loving being "home" though, aren't you/?
    Hugs,
    Kris

    1. Oh yes, we are very thankful to be in the house and settling in. It is taking a little longer than I thought it might, but slow and steady wins the race. :-)

  9. That's such a pretty nest. I love listening to the birds chirping in the morning. It's the sweet sounds of Spring with new beginnings and everything coming to life. I love this time of year.

  10. That is a pretty nest. I wonder why the momma isn't there sitting on them? I hope it hasn't been abandoned. When doves had a nest on our back porch in a hanging plant, there was always a dove sitting on the eggs...not sure if they switched out or if it was always the momma. Anyway, have fun watching it. It's always fun.
